I was about to go to bed when I came across this article via digg. My hopes were immediately dashed when I read it was the SNES title coming to the virtual console. Then immediately after that I thought “Wait! That kicks ass.” While it isn’t a new EarthBound game, it is the classic one that makes me long for the RPG’s of yesteryear.
This could also be the writing on the wall. This could be the first step into getting a Wii version or one of the previously unreleased (in America) titles. Paper Mario (for the 64) was released on the VC around the time as Super Paper Mario. They included Lucas in the new Smash Bro’s. Maybe a new Earthbound game isn’t too far off. The other option is that they put the game up for a lack of other good games and there is nothing more to it. For now I’d like to be an optimist… or a hippopotamus. I’d be happy either way.
Now I just have to decide witch Star Man would win in a fight.
I’m just glad I don’t have to choose.

Yeah, I’ve heard that Nintendo had a poll: What would you like to see on the Wii VC, and Earthbound was #1. The list also included Mother 1.
I hope they decide to release Mother 3 here (GBA) but I doubt there will be a “new” Mother game for a while.
Unfortunately Nintendo doesn’t feel that Earthbound has a place in the US market, which is why they decided not to release Mother 3 for the GBA (probably because it was released sometime after the release of the DS.)
Ah well, at least there’s Mother 3 being translated by a group of fans. I’m extremely excited for that, and hopefully it will work on one of my GBA systems!
